Let's get down to the bare bone basics here and talk about how exactly to use your essential oils. This particular post is for beginners. If you're an oil pro leave comments below on ways you have implemented oils into your lifestyle!
There are three basic ways use essential oils: aromatically, topically, and internally.
Here's what that means...
Aromatically: Using essential oils aromatically means through the gift of smell. This can be as simple as opening a bottle and taking a deep breath, or using a diffuser to disperse the oils into the air in which you breath. Other ways I like to use my oils aromatically:
Topically: Using essential oils topically means physically applying them to the top of your skin. Some oils are too potent to apply directly to your skin so be sure to read the labels or ask your wellness advocate. When using oils topically with children you should always dilute. I suggest using fractioned coconut oil. A few ways I like to use my oils topically:
Lastly, internally: Using essential oils internally means digesting them. Again, not all oils are safe for consumption so please be sure to research your oils. Some fabulous ways I use my oils internally:

There are few things as exciting as coming home to a giant box on your doorstep with your name on it. Am I right?? I get SO giddy when my monthly doTERRA order arrives. This month's LRP order may just be my most exciting one to date! With the excitement comes the social media sharing and with that I always get questions on what the products are, what they are for and the follow up.... where can I get those??
I'm going to share with you my September LRP order. But first, I'll tell you what the heck 'LRP' is.
The doTERRA Loyalty Rewards Program (LRP) provides free product credits for monthly purchases ordered on the program. I’ve decided to do a blog series that shares with you all… exactly what it’s titled… what is in my diffuser.
There are so many great blends to try and experiment with. Even changing your diffused oils as the seasons come and go gets exciting. I’m a dork I know! But it’s seriously something you will fall in love with.
Annabelle Kim from Green Air recently said on a team call that on average a household goes through 50 drops of oil a day. That’s impressive! But it’s easy to do when you have a diffuser in your bedroom, your kids’ bedroom, the living room, the kitchen, etc. Diffusing simply becomes a way of life. It becomes part of your routine, your lifestyle, part of your wellness plan.
So what’s in my diffuser?
Let me set the scene for you.
I’m in my office. Which doubles as a craft room. Which also houses our sweet house bunny. I’ve put in a full days work and am on my second wind. It’s a beautiful, end of summer, day. And I’ve already put on my cozy clothes and in need of a snack. Before I even sat down at my computer I started up my diffuser.
Today I am diffusing a blend consisting of 5 drops of bergamot, 4 drops of grapefruit.
I initially came across this blend at my mom’s house. She had a hand soap that was this combo and I fell in love and knew I had to recreate it.
So here are some facts about these two oils.
Bergamot is the most delicate of the citrus plants, requiring special climate and soil in order to thrive. Italians have used Bergamot for years to reduce feelings of stress and to soothe and rejuvenate skin. In Greece, the unripe fruits are used as sweetmeats, eaten by the spoonful as a dessert or with coffee. Bergamot is unique among citrus oils due to its ability to be both uplifting and calming, making it ideal to help with anxious and sad feelings. It is also purifying and cleansing for the skin while having a calming effect.
•Diffuse in the classroom, at work, or at home when stress levels or tension is high.
•Apply to the skin while showering and inhale deeply to experience its calming aroma while enjoying its purifying skin benefits.
•Change regular tea to Earl Grey with the addition of Bergamot.
•Apply to the feet before bedtime or use with Fractionated Coconut Oil for a calming and relaxing massage.
•Add one to two drops to your DIY skin care cleanser.
Referred to as a “forbidden fruit” and one of the “Seven Wonders of Barbados, ” Grapefruit was first documented in 1750 by Welshman Rev. Griffith Hughes. The name “grapefruit” is attributed to the fruits growing in clusters which resemble those of grapes. Known for its energizing and invigorating aroma, Grapefruit helps uplift mood and provides a clarifying effect to the mind. Grapefruit is also renowned for its cleansing and purifying properties and is frequently used in skin care for its ability to promote the appearance of clear, healthy-looking skin. Grapefruit can also support a healthy metabolism.*
•Add to your teenager’s facial routine to improve the appearance of blemishes (avoid sun exposure).
•Diffuse while dieting or trying to lose weight to increase motivation.
•Add one to two drops to your water to support a healthy metabolism.*
The blend is exactly what I needed. My nose knew it. My brain knew it. By body knew it.
